Oxford Management Services Helps American Cancer Society Fight Men’s Cancers at Yankee Stadium

The First Annual “Be Your Own MVP” event at Yankee Stadium brought over 200 people together in support of the American Cancer Society and its Vision of a World with Less Cancer and More Birthdays

Fort Pierce, Florida – August 30, 2010 – The American Cancer Society held the first annual Be Your Own MVP event at Yankee Stadium in the Legends Suite Club.  With the help of longtime supporters and committee members Peter Pinto and Patrick Pinto of Oxford Management Services, the event raised over $90,000 to help fight back for all cancers that affect men.

As we are all aware, cancer does not discriminate and it has impacted each of our families in one form or another,” said Patrick Pinto, Executive Vice President of OMS.   ”We have actively participated in the American Cancer Society for many years and are proud to support a cause that is close to our hearts.  We believe that we have a responsibility to give our younger generations a fighting chance to one day live in a cancer free world.  This event was a great first step for our committee and we look forward to continuing to raise awareness and expand our support group.”

The Be Your Own MVP fundraiser was designed as a fun-filled event to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society.  There were approximately 200 people in attendance and each of them had an opportunity to take a photo with the World Series Trophy and Championship Ring.  Everyone also enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the Stadium and were able to take a turn in the batting cage up against the fast ball machine.  In addition, several former Yankees stopped by the event.  During dinner, guests were entertained by a tribute to Bob Sheppard by the talented Chris Pavia, who has captured the essence of Bob Sheppard with a terrific impersonation.  The evenings highlight was 15-year-old cancer survivor Andrew Fierstein’s inspirational speech about his personal fight against cancer.

According to Peter Pinto, OMS' President, "Our employees value the opportunity to give back to others." Peter Pinto also stated, "There is nothing better then seeing the smiles on peoples' faces and the appreciation in their hearts.  I am personally honored to be surrounded by such wonderful and caring people and want to thank our team for their continued generosity in our communities."

Organizations OMS and our employees supported in 2009 include:

Gourmet Gifts for Veterans: OMS joined with New York’s renowned Junior’s Restaurant to donate 125 of their legendary cheesecakes to the VA Medical Centers in Northport, New York, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and West Palm Beach, Florida.

“Junior’s is extremely grateful to the men and women who serve stateside or overseas,” said Alan Rosen, co-owner of Junior’s, “we are honored to partner with OMS to provide them with a little taste of home with our cheesecakes, especially at holiday time when so many of our troops and veterans are away from their families.”

“In addition to the cheesecakes, OMS is also donating Fretzels by Jill, delicious, hand-dipped, designer, gourmet chocolate covered pretzels to our well deserving veterans.

“The cheesecakes are a wonderful edition to the holiday meals for our hospitalized veterans,” stated Mary C. Phillips, MTRS, West Palm Beach VAMC. “The cheesecakes, along with the Fretzels, are greatly appreciated by the veterans and the generosity of OMS and Junior’s Restaurant will certainly enhance the quality of life for America’s Heroes, our veterans who have so proudly served our country.”

Through the gift of a new toy, the goal of Toys for Tots is to motivate children to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. OMS employees collected toys, books and gifts to bring to the local Marine drop off locations. “Our employees have made this a special event for all of us and we look forward to it year after year,” Peter Pinto, commented, “Whether it is bringing in toys or other donations, everyone feels good about participating in the drive.” To donate, please go to www.toysfortots.org
